Fundraising by Bicester branch of family-owned footwear brand, Pavers

We are delighted to have gathered more local champions for Alexandra House of Joy!
Michelle Williams and Annette Bosher are wonderfully orchestrating a number of events to raise funds for Alexandra House of Joy with the support of Pavers, the family-owned shoe
shop chain that they work for.

Annette has a niece with profound learning disability and has seen how she and her family are being affected by the constant cuts made to Adult Social Care in our county.
When she heard about Alexandra House of Joy and realised the importance of the charity she took the idea of supporting us to her boss, Michelle, Manager of the Bicester branch of Pavers.

Michelle agreed and, between them, they have become wonderful champions for Alexandra House of Joy, planning and hosting a number of fundraising events since December 2023, including:

  • Tombola event in the Bicester shoe store – raised £336
  • Valentine’s themed cake sale and a raffle – raised £408
  • Charity Bingo evening with raffle – raised £1,338

£77 was also raised by Ayla – Annette’s 11 year old daughter – from the sale of her toys! We are so grateful.

Pavers HQ have granted a further £1,000 to be spent on prizes for future events held by Michelle, Annette and the team and we look forward to sharing details of those events.

It is absolutely wonderful having the interest and support of such an amazing local company.

Fundraising Update And Supporter Thank You From Rachael

We continue to work hard raising the funds to build Alexandra House of Joy, and fulfil our vision of a purpose built community including a day centre with arranged daily activities for adults with learning disabilities aged 19 years and upwards.

Each day we constantly look for ways in which we can build up the account which at times can be very challenging! Our total at present now stands at £878,289 which is so encouraging, and we have only been able to do this through and with the incredible support of very faithful friends and followers of our project.

Regular Craft Stalls
Every month on Thursdays and Saturdays the Banbury Market Stall continues to do very well and over the past seven months – thanks to the marvellous donors and customers – the fantastic sum of £11,575 has been raised. We love to receive donations for the stall so if anyone reading this would like to contribute we would be extremely grateful.

We now also have a craft stall in the Bicester Crafters Emporium where we can sell our goods – made by a team of very generous and lovely ladies! We hope you’ll visit us there soon.

Special Events
On a Friday in November, Dr Darragh Ennis (from The Chase and Beat the Chasers) ran a third Celebrity Quiz Evening to raise funds. Teams of eight to a table were filled and it was a full-to-capacity house! It was a wonderful evening once again with lots of fun and very challenging questions set by Chris Curtis, winner of Britain’s Brainiest Family. Vince O’Connor was there too, making sure all the scoring was kept up to scratch!! The amazing sum of £2074 was raised. We are so grateful to Darragh, Chris and Vince and to all the volunteers who helped make it the success it was.

Also in November 2023 the Lower Heyford Sports & Social Club and The Barley Mow Pub held a quiz and raised the wonderful sum of £175 for Alexandra House of Joy! It was a wonderful surprise and we are so grateful to groups like this who run an event on our behalf and raise funds for us.

Lastly, Les Sibley was re-elected as Chair of Cherwell District Council for another year (2023-2024) and confirmed that he would continue to raise funds for Alexandra House of Joy during his second year in office. We are enormously grateful to him. He is a real champion of our Charity in so many ways, and it is wonderful to have him on board supporting us to reach our target.

Ian and I would like to say to all our amazing supporters – an immense thank you for your wonderful continued kindness and encouraging belief in all that is being achieved in the fulfilment of the God-given Vision and Mission for the Centre. Raising the funds to build still remains an extremely difficult journey, but we remain very positive and committed knowing that God is all powerful and nothing is impossible with Him.

A special thank you to everyone who donates goods for us to sell, buys the goods that we sell, knits, sews, and creates wonderful items for our craft stall, donates money, comes to our events, runs fundraising events themselves, and for those who offer great encouragement to keep going.

We are profusely grateful. We couldn’t do any of what we are achieving without the help and support of all our followers.
With much gratitude, Ian and Rachael Scott-Hunter

It is an amazing opportunity and we are extremely appreciative.
